AmesMUG: MacBook not seeing Ethernet

I assume you have the Ethernet port set to be configured  
automatically in the Network Prefs and you haven't done anything to  
change the way your network card works.

Have you tried booting from a different installation or re-installed  
OS X to see if it is a software problem?

Was the other computer you tried a Mac?  I know there have been some  
network equipment that just wont work on my PowerBook  but will work  
on other equipment (I've only encountered one situation like that).   
Try plugging a switch or hub between the wall outlet and your MacBook  
and see if that might solve the problem.
