AmesMUG: iChat won't connect

Your buddy list for AIM (which iChat uses) is actually stored on the
AIM servers, which is why you can log in with your screen name on any
computer and have your buddy list. If you have paired names up with
screen names, those are stored in your OS X address book, which
wouldn't be affected by reinstalling iChat.

Before re-installing iChat, you may want to try using a different
account, just to make sure it isn't a problem with your primary AIM
account. If you want to delete iChat's plist file, it is in ~/
Library/Preferences (home directory, Library, Preferences).
