AmesMUG: Slow Start

How is it being slow?  Does it take a long time to get to the login  
screen / show your desktop picture, or does it take a long time from  
logging in to being usable?  Is it slow after it is finished starting  
up?  Do you have any applications launch on startup?

One of the first things I do about a slow Mac is to fix permissions  
on the had drive in the Disk Utility application.
