AmesMUG: Cut power cord....

So i was in studio today and my friend cut the power cord on his  
macbook. I was wondering if anyone possibly had an old extra cord or  
if someone knew how to fix the cord? The cord is different than most  
there is an insulated part in the center of the rest of the wires.

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated!

On another subject is there a noticeable or worthwhile difference in  
a 5400 vs 7200 rpm hard drive? The 7200 rpm i understand drains the  
battery faster but also reads faster. The 5400 rpm has the larger  
capacities which is what i want. Should i just buy the 5400? I hate  
expensive decisions especially when they become outdated so fast!
