AmesMUG: surgery on imac

Dear MUG,

I currently use an imac G4 computer that has an 80GB hard drive that is nearly
full. I want to keep the computer for yet another year or two if I can, so I'm
toying with the idea of putting a 160GB drive into it instead. I realize that
these computers were normally not designed for upgrades like this, but I've seen
some instructions on the internet about how you can do it. Have any of you ever
attempted this stunt? Is it feasible to do it? I think it might be a welcome
challenge, but I don't have any experience with upgrading a computer, and
obviously I don't want to break my computer.

If I can upgrade this thing, how much attention do I need to give toward what
type of hard drive I'm buying? What type is appropriate for the G4?
