I've replaced many hard drives in those iMacs in the past. It is
fairly involved, especially since you have to separate the processor
from the heat sink, meaning you have to remove the old thermal paste
and put on new paste before closing it back up. It is very important
to have this done correctly, or the processor won't be cooled
effectively.
You want to look for any IDE (aka PATA) drive that is 3.5". That is a
very common drive style. I personally would buy a Seagate or Hitachi
drive. Take a look at newegg.com for good deals.
