Hey all.
We have some important decisions we need to make. GSB funding
meetings are coming up. The schedule is below.
Organizations that wish to apply for Regular Allocations MUST attend
one of the four informational sessions:
Tuesday, January 29 at 11am in Room 3512 - Memorial Union
Thursday, January 31 at 4pm in Room 3512 - Memorial Union
Monday, February 4 at 6pm in Room 3512 - Memorial Union
Wednesday, February 6 at 6pm in the Oak Room - Memorial Union
The question is, should we apply for funding? As I think most of you
are aware, Jordan and I will be leaving Ames and ISU in May.
Currently, Jordan is the group secretary and I am the group
treasurer. All organizations are required to have a president,
treasurer, and faculty/staff adviser. However, the president and
treasurer can be the same person. Our current officer lineup looks
like this:
President Brandon J Newendorp
Adviser Thomas Hillson
Treasurer Christopher D Hoff
Vice President Jonathan T Salvador
Secretary Jordan M Hoff
So the obvious void to fill for the upcoming year is treasurer. As a
student organization, our officers must be students. So, if the one
or two students we'll have left in the group next year aren't willing
to step up and learn how to be treasurer, the group can't continue. I
can train anyone on the treasurer duties. It isn't all that difficult
since I've kept everything - so examples on anything you'd need to do
are available. Another option would be to convert the group to a
campus organization. This would mean no more GSB funding, but filling
officer positions would be easier because they can be anyone from the
university community. And without GSB to worry about, the treasurer
position would be easy. And I suppose the final possibility is to
dissolve the group entirely. If we go that route, we'll have to deal
with our assets. (Assets may even be an issue if we go to campus org
status - not sure how GSB purchased items would be handled in that
case).
At the GSB funding meeting, they will request information about our
org, such as who the officers are. I can only make the first two GSB
funding meetings. The later two I have class. Unfortunately, the two
meeting options are both before our next officer's meeting (this
Thursday). So we can try and figure this all out over email, or maybe
hold an "emergency" officer's meeting on Tuesday night (at 7?).
To add another complication, our organization will expire in a few
weeks. This happens every year. To renew we have to collect
signatures of all officers and our adviser on a Compliance Agreement
Form. I don't think this should be done until we know our plans for
next year.
All recipients - please respond to this email. Everyone's input is
needed!
Thanks,
---
